Collaborating directly with VFX Supervisor Chris Godfrey, Head of 2D Tony Cole, and Head of 3D Clinton Downs, I was responsible for designing the major VFX sequences in this VFX-intensive, green screen-driven production.
My contributions included:
Visualizing 1920s New York: Crafting a stylized yet authentic representation of the city, capturing the essence of the Jazz Age.
Seasonal Variations of the Sanatorium: Depicting the sanatorium across different seasons to reflect narrative shifts.
Gatsby's Mansion: Designing the opulent interiors and exteriors to embody Gatsby's extravagant lifestyle.
Valley of the Ashes: Creating a stark, symbolic landscape representing moral and social decay.
Wedding Flashback: Developing visuals that seamlessly integrate with the film's temporal transitions.
A critical aspect of our workflow was the establishment of the Bazmark internal VFX team at Fox Studios in Sydney. This in-house unit of concept, visual effects, and post-production artists provided direct access to Director Baz Luhrmann and the production team, streamlining decision-making and ensuring cohesive visual storytelling.
Our meticulous approach to visual effects and production design was pivotal in bringing the world of 'The Great Gatsby' to life, blending historical authenticity with Baz Luhrmann's distinctive cinematic style.
