I worked on Australia in a dual capacity, contributing to both production-side VFX development and post-production matte painting.
Phase 1: Production-Side VFX Development
Initially, I was brought on by Bazmark Films to work directly with VFX Supervisor Chris Godfrey and Production Designer Catherine Martin. The film was a massive undertaking, featuring several major green screen set-pieces that needed to be designed and developed in post-production. My role involved creating concept art and key visuals that would later guide the VFX process.
Phase 2: Digital Matte Painting at Animal Logic
After completing my work on production, I transitioned to Animal Logic, where I joined the DMP department under Lead Matte Painter Tim Warnock. Here, I contributed digital matte paintings for key sequences, ensuring visual continuity and realism across the film’s expansive landscapes and historical environments.
This project required a seamless blend of practical sets, VFX extensions, and full CG environments, and it was an incredible experience to work both at the production and vendor level, seeing the film’s visual development from concept to final execution.
